Drawing inspiration from Joseph Campbell's "The Hero's Journey," this talk contrasts the exploration of the male psyche's quest to "follow their bliss" with the journey that women embark upon. When Maureen Murdock inquired about the Heroine's Journey in 1981, Campbell suggested that women inherently embody the destination of this quest, needing only to recognize their inherent worth. Yet, like Murdock, I felt a profound call to delve deeper into the Heroine's Journey, a path of self-discovery, understanding, love, and the casting aside of outdated notions.
This presentation is not just my story; it's a roadmap for any woman navigating her journey through life and career. It's about discovering, understanding, and loving oneself while discarding the ideas that no longer serve us. My journey illuminates the power of recognizing our wonderful character and embracing our unique paths without succumbing to the pressures of conforming to pseudo-roles. For too long, women have observed and enveloped conversations, often holding back due to fears of success, failure, exposure, or being overlooked. I am challenging this narrative, showing that conforming to the status quo only guarantees safety and predictability but stifles growth and creativity. We will address historically taboo topics like money and sex, advocating for women to initiate discussions on pleasure and dictate policies around finances, breaking the silence that has long been imposed on women's voices.
